Differences between jaw crusher and heavy hammer crusher

Sep,29,2020

Single-stage heavy hammer crusher also called hammer crusher, mainly used for stone crushing in building materials industry, highway and railway construction, and other industries using stone materials. Hammer crusher is suitable for the crushing of various materials of medium hard and below, such as limestone, gypsum, bricks, slag, coal gangue, salt, chalk and other materials. It can directly crush materials with a large particle size of 750-1500mm to about 20mm. Jaw crusher is widely used in the coarse crushing of various minerals and rocks in various industries such as mining, building materials, highway, railway, water conservancy, chemical industry, etc., and coarse crushing of various ores and bulk materials. So how to select between jaw breaker and hammer breaker, you must first understand the differences in the following aspects.
Differences between jaw crusher and heavy hammer crusher

1. Different appearance and working principle

Friends who know these two types of stone crushing equipment can be distinguished from the appearance. Besides, the working principle is also very different. The working method of the jaw crusher is extrusion crushing. The crushing cavity is composed of two jaw plates, a movable jaw and a fixed jaw plate, to simulate animals’ two jaws movement to complete the material crushing, so it is also called "tiger mouth" in some country. The hammer crusher mainly crushes materials by impact force. After the rock hammer crusher is started, the motor drives the rotor to rotate at a high speed. The material enters the cavity of the hammer crusher and was broken by the impacting, shearing, tearing of the rotating hammer and the mutual impacting between materials and the liner .

2. Different broken materials

The jaw crusher can crush all kinds of soft and hard materials, such as: granite, quartz stone, diabase, river pebble, iron ore, etc. Hammer crusher is mainly used to crush ore with low hardness, and the compressive strength is generally less than 200Mpa, such as limestone, bluestone, coal gangue, etc. The hammer head wears severely when crushing hard materials, and it may cost thousands of dollars to replace a set of hammer heads. For ordinary high manganese steel hammer heads, some need to be replaced in 2 or 3 days, which is too costly.

3. Different discharge adjustment methods

For the hammer crusher, the discharge port can be adjusted by replacing the bottom screen plate. There are many adjustment methods for jaw crusher. Mainly three types: pad adjustment, wedge adjustment, and hydraulic cylinder.

4. Different crusher production line configuration

Generally speaking, the content of needles in the finished products of jaw crusher is relatively high, and it needs to be shaped with a impact crusher, so we often see the configuration of jaw crusher + impact crusher. Hammer crushers are mainly used for industrial first-stage crush. The finished products can be formed at one time by hammer crusher without the need for two-stage crushing and shaping process. Therefore, it is often used for small and medium-sized stone crusher production lines.

5. Different applications in sand and gravel aggregate making lines

Hammer crushers are rarely used in sand and gravel aggregate production lines. Although the process is simple, the hammer crusher has low yield, and many powdery materials in finished products. What’s more, the finished aggregate may have micro-cracks, low compressive strength, affecting the aggregate quality, sales and prices, so it is often used as auxiliary sand making equipment.

Jaw crusher is often used as primary crushing equipment in stone aggregate production line, followed by impact crusher or cone crusher for medium crushing, and then sand making machine for fine crushing and reshaping.

Hammer crusher and jaw crusher are common rough crushing equipment, with large crushing ratio and simple structure. But the former works by impact force, and the finished product has better grain shape. The limitation is that the hammer crusher is not suitable for hard rock material processing. While jaw crusher can handle a wide range of various hard materials, but the limitation is that the shape of the finished product is not good, and it needs to be shaped by impact crusher or vertical shaft impact crusher. In general, both have their own advantages. As for which equipment to choose, it needs to be based on specific process requirements.
